Personal data policy

Treatment of Personal Data

  • Personal data is information about the individual, and includes information such as a person's name, date of birth, address, test results, and other particulars and numbers, signs and symbols assigned individually that identify a person. (This includes information that, although not in itself enabling identification of an individual, could be easily cross-checked against other information so as to identify a particular individual.)
  • Personal data on persons applying to take the BJT Business Japanese Proficiency Test ("BJT") using this application form ("applicants") will be used only insofar as necessary to conduct the BJT applied for.
  • This personal data will be collected by lawful means. The Japan External Trade Organization ("JETRO"), which administrates the BJT, will not in principle disclose personal data collected from persons applying to take the BJT using this application form to third parties, except business partners and service providers, without the written consent of the applicant. However, JETRO may disclose personal data without the written consent of the applicant to the police, related organizations or other third parties in the following instances:
    1. If disclosure is requested as provided for by law.
    2. If it is judged that the details provided are false and/or harmful to the interests of a third party.
    3. If these is any other good reason in concrete.
  • We may provide personal data on the applicant to business partners and service providers involved in implementation of the BJT when sending out examination cards and test results and for similar purposes.In such cases, only the necessary data for that purpose will be disclosed. Business partners and service providers will also be requires to sign confidentiality agreements,and steps will be taken to prevent the leak and re-disclosure of personal data by them.
  • The statistical data on examinees may be used on television, on websites or in magazines and for explanation of JETRO services.

The content of this document is subject to change without notice. In such case, amended content regarding the treatment of personal data on BJT applicants shall apply from the time of publication on the BJT website or in the application booklet, except where otherwise provided for by JETRO.
