JETROUS-based Datascope Goes into High Gear in Japan's Clinical Care Business

Datascope Japan K.K., the Japan subsidiary of US-based Datascope Corp.To other site, (Montvale, NJ), a provider of medical devices for the clinical health care industry, announced the launch of its full-scale entry into Japan's medical equipment market, with aim of expanding its presence in the country through strengthened customer support and business development functions. The Japan office is also handling marketing, regulatory affairs, quality assurance, logistics and technical functions.

Datascope is the world's leading manufacturer of intra-aortic balloon pumps (IABPs), with a 50% share of Japan's IABP market (and 75% worldwide). According to Datascope Japan's acting managing director, Mr. John Saavedra, Japan is the second largest revenue source for Datascope, after the US, and the firm hopes to increase its share of Japan's IABP market by 10%.

Datascope made use of JETRO's Invest Japan Business Support Center in Tokyo to set-up its office (established September 2007), utilizing free office space and consultations with expert advisors.
