Strength of the region's industries and economy

Shiga Prefecture makes effective use of its resources and potential in an effort to create new industries with unique characteristics. Specifically, the prefecture has implemented policies to promote local industries by placing an emphasis on such fields as the environment, health and welfare, tourism, biotech and IT, and is working hard to attract companies in these sectors to invest in Shiga.

Shiga Prefecture has 9 universities, 3 two-year colleges and 58 high schools. Each of the prefecture’s universities has a liaison office for academia-industry partnerships, where they eagerly welcome enquiries about joint research and technical advice.
