One Village One Product Markets Reopen at Three Japan Airports
June 01, 2007
Following the success of "One-Village, One-Product (OVOP) Markets" opened at seven airports across Japan from February 2006 to March 2007, JETRO and the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI), the markets' organizers, reopened markets at three major airports: Narita, Kansai and Haneda. The markets, which feature attractive products from developing countries such as processed foods, crafts and accessories, aim to promote these products and their representative countries to a wider public.
The OVOP Markets are a product of Japan's "New Development Initiative for Trade", announced in December 2005 by then Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi. Under the initiative, JETRO and METI were tasked with supporting the development and execution of OVOP campaigns to help boost the economies of developing countries (in particular LDCs or “least developed countries").
Some 360,000 people visited the FY2006 OVOP Markets, which were operated at Narita, Kansai, Chubu (Centrair), Kobe, Haneda, Osaka and Fukuoka airports (the Kobe market was operated by METI and the Manufactured Imports and Investment Promotion Organization, or MIPRO).
Please stop by the OVOP Market the next time you visit Narita, Kansai or Haneda.
